Is there a way to temporarily cancel of Symbol and Text substitution? Occasionally I'd like ½ to be displayed as 1/2 but it always turns into ½ if Symbol and Text substitution is enabled.

Have you tried turning it off in Edit > Substitutions? – Tom Gewecke Mar 27 at 15:59
