I have a Macbook Retina with the Power Nap feature enabled. I know that Power Nap is supposed to back up periodically when asleep but will it continue a backup that was started when awake. Just wondering because I've just been putting the display to sleep because I didn't want to disrupt the backup.

Yes. I'm guessing that you are using Time Machine to back up? If so.. "Time Machine backup. Your Mac notebook can back up while it sleeps." Please see: support.apple.com/kb/HT5394 for further details. – Phorce Jan 19 at 12:11
