Ask Different is a question and answer site for power users of Apple hardware and software. It's 100% free, no registration required.

How can I set up a single keystroke to jump to the app or web site playing music? I currently use Rhapsody, iTunes, Pandora, Spotify, Rdio, VLC, and Soundcloud to listen to music, as well as the occasional one-off website (e.g. KEXP). It's not uncommon that playback will be coming from a background browser tab that got buried in a Safari window on a second or third Mission Control space.

It would be great if I could set up a script or something to jump quickly to the app/tab playing music so I can pause, jump to next track, etc.

Figuring out pause button passthrough would take a big bite out of the underlying problem, but I can't find any solutions that work a) on Mountain Lion or b) on web sites.
