I have an iPhone 3G running on iOS 4.1 (unlocked and jailbroken) with a broken Home button.

I want to upgrade it to iOS 4.2. redsn0w_win_0.9.14b2 allows you to install iOS with a a broken Home button.

Does redsn0w_win_0.9.14b2 work in my case?

Yes, it'll work, but you'll have to go up to 4.2.1, not just 4.2, and you should use the latest redsn0w, 0.9.15b1. – Andrew Larsson Jan 10 at 16:28
