The Problem:

I want to copy files from my MacBook Air to my Time Capsule but it is taking a long time. I calculated the rate to be 1.5 Mbps which is very slow. In other forums they say the rate is supposed to be about 15-20 Mbps.

The transfer is slow either way. From Macbook Air to Time Capsule or vise versa.

How to fix the data transfer speed to be 15-20 Mbps??

It used to be fast when I first bought it, but I don't know what made it slow down! I'm not sure if it was the Mountain Lion update or something else.

The Setting:

I have a MacBook Air with OS X Mountain Lion version 10.8.2 and a 4th generation 2 TB Time Capsule model A1409.

I'm placing both MacBook Air and Time Capsule on the same table 2 feet away from each.

The Time Capsule is connected to the internet switch via Ethernet cable. My MacBook Air is connected to the internet using the Time Capsule network. I tested the internet speed and it's fine. It's the same internet speed I'm subscribed to.

Time Capsule Disk format is Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled). But sometimes when Macbook Air is awake from sleep, I get an error message from Time Machine saying that backup couldn't be completed because the format is not Mac OS Extended (Journaled)! Some other times is backs up normally. The Disk Utility shows that Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled). I verified the backup disk and found no problems.

When you say "Mbps", do you mean megabits or megabytes per second? People often make mistakes in that. 15-20Mbps (that's megabits per second) is in the ballpark of 1.5-2.5 MB/s (megabytes per second) – Nas Banov Mar 24 at 7:24
