My iPhone 3GS doesn't restore and gives a hardware error of -1. The problems started when installing iOS 6 during a cloud backup.

I took it to the Genius Bar and they couldn't help, except offer a replacement for money. So I'm thinking of opening it up and testing circuits and stuff.

Any advice on where to begin?

The update bar on the 3gs gets to around 70% before cutting out and -1 displayed in itunes
