There is no option to specify the sorting and it should always display the most recent messages first. Perhaps there are no more recent messages in the mailbox or folder you are currently viewing? –  Gerry Dec 17 '12 at 18:32

Select the settings icon, then choose Mail, Contacts, Calendars, scroll down to find Display order. I have first, Last selected, this means the first e-mail is the last in the list.

The option you're pointing to is to sort/display your contacts. First name, Last Name or display by Last name, First Name. –  Hoshts Dec 17 '12 at 23:22

I'm having the same problem. My mail opens on my oldest messages and I have to scroll up to the newest message. Is there no way to fix this? –  user72317 Mar 7 at 3:00
