My iPhone 3gs has been misbehaving lately:

  • Randomly drops signal to "No Service"
  • "No SIM" issues
  • Restarts itself
  • Says it needs to be restored

I have already tried restoring it, cleaning the SIM card, and it continues to restart itself. Help!

It's likely a hardware issue, but it's possible there's a corrupted setting causing this (although it seems unlikely).

When you restored it, did you do so from a backup, or a fresh install of iOS, without transferring your old settings over? Try a fresh restore and see if that fixes the issue — that's the only software problem I can think of that might cause this. However my gut says it's likely a hardware issue, and you're going to need a trip to an Apple store or third party repair centre.

I restored an iCloud backup, which could have restored the issue from before the restore. – XAleXOwnZX Dec 1 '12 at 23:40
Yes, try a totally clean restore. To be honest I'm not sure how likely it is that problems can get carried over from the restore process, but it is something that Apple techs will recommend, and it's certainly worth a shot if it saves an expensive repair or replacement. – robmathers Dec 1 '12 at 23:47
