My question is on iPhone 3G and iMessages.

My iPhone 3G does not have and never had iMessages. The iPhone 3GS of a friend has.

Day 1: I got my friend's iPhone, put my sim card into my friend's iPhone, connected it to my Macbook only to charge it. Later, I removed my sim card again from his iPhone, put his back in and gave it back to him. I did not do ANYTHING on his iPhone, nor change or delete any setting.

Day 4: We both meet again at the same place. He later tells me that he received my SMS of that Day 4 (true). We did not exchange anything that day. He did/does not receive them immediately "live", but only on that day when we met.

  1. How did my SMS get on his iPhone? Bluetooth, Internet, Provider?
  2. How does iMessages connect and authenticate to get the SMS of the corresponding sim card?
  3. What does iMessages store on the iPhone itself to still be able to connect?
