What would be a good solution to achieve these use cases: I would like to

  1. use my iOS devices sort of as an extension to my iMac. I would like to access media (video, audio, pictures, pdf ...) I have on the iMac from my iOS device and look at them on my iOS device. Some codecs might not exist on the iOS device natively so I need to find a solution for that too (maybe some sort of remote desktop like technology?).
  2. quickly show something (a game, an app, a movie, photos, pdf, keynote presentation) I only have on my iOS device on the big screen of my iMac. To achieve this, I need to find a way to enable AirPlay mirroring from iOS to OSX. I could use an app like AirServer but I was hoping to get a single solution that also enables 1.
