Ask Different is a question and answer site for power users of Apple hardware and software. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I switch off the power bar which has my modem and computer plugged into it a few times per day. Two days ago, a technician changed the old wiring since my Internet completely stopped working.

I am wondering if turning off the power bar is damaging the modem or cables and is what caused my problem.

Can shutting off a modem directly from the power bar damage the modem or cables?

Does the modem have an Off Switch? What kind of modem are your referring too? Dial-up, Cable, DSL, Fios, ... Also info on the make / model would be helpful for looking up manufacturer recommendations. – MrDaniel Oct 25 '12 at 13:45

I don’t think this is an Apple hardware/software question. – duci9y Oct 25 '12 at 13:46
