I have an external drive that I use to backup my iMac and Macbook to. There is a single folder on that drive called backups.backupdb. Inside that folder is a folder for my iMac and a folder for my Macbook. I think I did something on the MacBook computer where now it doesn't want to resume putting new incremental backups into the folder it has been using for a long time. The MacBook now wants to create a whole new monster backup and put it on the root of the drive.
Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? If I can avoid it, I don't want to have to delete everything in favor of doing a new monster backup of everything.
tmutil inheritdiskand Mountain Lion is even more flexible in managing different drives and directories. Is there anything that changed that drive? I believe the folder should be Backups.backupdb with a capital B - but don't know if that alone will mess up Time Machine. – bmike♦ Oct 3 '12 at 21:13
