I have this new TV - philips 40pfl8606h. I plugged it to my 15 inch Macbook with a VGA adaptor. It was working fine, but part of the left side of the screen was black, maybe because the macbook didn't utilize the full resolution of the screen. It didn't have the native resolution as an option.

Then, at some point OS X installed a driver and now I could utilize the full resolution, there were more options in the "System Preferences -> Displays".

Shortly after that (2 or three times of using the display), the screen turned pink/purple. I tried with another VGA adapter - same story.

I tried with another external monitor - 22 inch samsung, it worked correctly. I also plugged the philips to my 13 inch macbook and again it worked okay. But in the 13 inch mac this driver is not installed, and the screen is cut.

The 15 inch Macbook is using OS X 10.8. The 13 inch mac is using 10.7.
