i have my iphone configured to get email from my pop server. i also went into the advanced settings and configured it to 'delete from server' 'when removed from inbox'. still, i noticed that when i log into my pop account from webmail or from my email client on my desktop, i find emails that i deleted on my iphone are still on the pop server.

at first i thought i was just imagining it, but this week i intentionally left my desktop email client off for the entire week and managed my email on my phone exclusively. i delete spam like a champ. yet today when i started my desktop email client i get all of the mail i deleted for the entire week flooding in. clearly the iphone is not deleting mail on the server.

i spent some time on google trying to figure out if this is a known issue, but i don't see any red flags. i consider myself a power user and i develop software for a living, so i'm no dummy. this is frustrating me and i'm very close to ditching this iphone for an android. there are half a dozen other annoyances about apple's email client, but this could be the one that kicks me over the edge.

do you have any ideas? perhaps i have my pop server configured incorrectly on the server side? i'm stumped.

I have never experienced this... I used to use POP but all of my email providers now give an IMAP access so I'm not using POP anymore. Maybe this is a recent bug. Or have I never noticed it? – Coyote Nov 23 '12 at 7:33

this was my mistake. i forgot that i actually have two pop accounts at home and only one of them was configured on my phone. so my experience was that i'd delete items on my phone then go home and open my mail client and find tons of spam coming in that i thought i had deleted on my phone - but that spam was coming from my other pop account. sorry for the bad question and thanks to everyone who kept telling me it's not broken. – rev Nov 29 '12 at 16:16

I suppose I've been thinking putting anything over Deleted Messages: Remove different than Never will rectify the issue still if it's no help for you I will delete the answer. – iskra Oct 5 '12 at 23:25
