After updating to Mountain Lion, my MacBook's screen starts to blink/flash with a grey background. What could be the problem?

Is this on startup, or while using the MacBook? Does it only do this intermittently, or constantly until you restart? Please provide as many details as possible about when and how this occurs. – Dan J Jul 31 '12 at 2:58
