I have a 2008/9 160 GB 13" MBP that is under Lion's full disk file vault. I made a disk image of it (.sparseimage) with CCC on an external hard drive. I have a new 250 GB retina MBP, and I connected the external drive, booted with option key to select "recovery HD", get to disk utility, and restore with source old-mbp.sparseimage to the 250 GB hard drive's "Macintosh HD". The restore completed successfully, but now when I boot to the hard drive I get a grey screen with a prohibited symbol in the middle (circle with a slash through it). I have successfully repaired and permission-repaired the Macintosh HD (only partition on 250 GB drive), but no change. Can I get this to work? Is it impossible to restore to different hard drives or different sized hard drives or from hard drives that were encrypted?
