On this link there is some interesting information about how resolution configurations of different displays are stored.

  1. Based on this information or some other source, is it possible to introduce custom HiDPI resolutions on the new MacBook Pro Retina display such as 2560x1600?
  2. That would require the video system to be able to draw 5120x3200 resolution since it's drawn at 2x. Is the system capable of this?
  3. Or the highest included HiDPI resolution of 1920x1200 is the upmost limit of the system's capabilities?
