I got a new iMac last October (2011)... and its Web Sharing will say use the address

http://unknowne3de6f2eaa3e/~mike/

(from System Preferences -> Sharing). The name of the computer (hostname) is already changed to iMac... so I wonder, how can the web address be changed to something easier to remember and type, such as

http://imac/~mike/

?

(Update: actually, http://imac.local/~mike/ will work... while http://unknowne3de6f2eaa3e/~mike/ will not... so I wonder what the rule is and it probably is a bug in System Preferences to say that it is http://unknowne3de6f2eaa3e/~mike/ )

Sounds like a DHCP changed hostname – Max Ried Jul 14 '12 at 10:02
