Ask Different is a question and answer site for power users of Apple hardware and software. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have tried restarting my iMac while holding D, waiting a few seconds after the chime and also holding down D till it gets to my Desktop, in not one of the instances did my iMac start up Apple Hardware Test.

Also, I tried locating the .diagnostics folder on my Snow Leopard Install DVD (bought when Snow Leopard came out) as suggested by leroydouglas. But also could not find it.

How can I start up Apple Hardware Test? I having problems with either my memory controller module or harddrive, and I need to test it.

I should also mention that this iMac came out with Tiger and was upgraded first to Leopard and then to Snow Leopard using retail install disks in both cases.
