Ask Different is a question and answer site for power users of Apple hardware and software. It's 100% free, no registration required.

It used to be possible to log in to ICQ accounts with iChat by using your ICQ login info as an AIM account. However, that no longer seems to work.

Is there any way to use ICQ with either iChat or the new Messages beta under Lion?

People still use ICQ? – Chase Florell Jun 19 '12 at 23:55
Since this isn't an answer to the question, I figure I'll just leave a comment. Try Adium – Chase Florell Jun 19 '12 at 23:56
@ChaseFlorell It's a point of pride to keep that low number logged in! – LessPop_MoreFizz Jun 19 '12 at 23:57

@ChaseFlorell ICQ logins came in the form of a number, which were issued in sequential order. 5 and 6 digit numbers are considered a status symbol in some circles, and are highly coveted, even going so far as to be bought and sold on the black market (though prices these days are obviously nowhere near where they were at the peak of the phenomena several years ago). – LessPop_MoreFizz Jun 20 '12 at 1:04

Setting Server to login.icq.com and Port to 5190, unchecking SSL in Server Settings tab should help.

This used to work, but it doesn't seem to anymore under Lion. :( – LessPop_MoreFizz Jun 21 '12 at 16:03
Maybe try a 3rd party app like Adium? – Justsomeguy Nov 27 '12 at 22:58
