I have an ipod touch 2 8g and whenever I touch my home button the screen goes dark and turns off. can someone please help.

Probably an electrical short or other mechanical fault. Have you gone over the normal steps to restore it? If not, start there. If so, take it in for a repair. – bmike♦ Apr 25 '12 at 23:07

As @ruddfawcett said, take it into an Apple Store and get them to diagnose the problem. You'll get a definitive answer as opposed to a bunch of people raffling off on what it might be. – cksum Apr 26 '12 at 3:04
