Ask Different is a question and answer site for power users of Apple hardware and software. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Suppose I wanted to know how many people use the iPad. And lets keep it simple and assume one user per device (since it's impossible to know exactly how many people have access to it.)

Clearly a direct answer to that question posted here would be out of date almost instantly, but is there a regularly updated source I could turn to to learn what is the market size of iPad users (any version of the iPad, but not including the iPhone)?

By "users" .. would that mean a family that shares an iPad could constitute, say, 3, 4, or 5 users? Or did you intend to ask about how many devices were sold and are being used? – Chris W. Rea Mar 16 '12 at 23:02

Apple announced their sales figured quarterly - they're the best source for this info:

The relevant quote being:

Apple sold 15.43 million iPads during the quarter, a 111 percent unit increase over the year-ago quarter.
