Even though I have selected the option "Always Open with" Quicktime Player for my .mp4 files. The changes never take effect and instead when I open a video, parallels desktop launches Windows Media Player.

Is anyone experiencing the same problem?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Have you tried same with Info (Cmd-I). This is better way to change default program. Also I've stopped sharing anything else than folders between Windows & Mac since upgraded to Parallels Desktop 7. It helps much also. – Eir Nym Nov 17 '11 at 21:09

i am absolutely experiencing the problem. i keep trying to set file associations using 'always open with', but they don't stick, as it were. i thought it was because the mac won't properly recognise .exe as an application, but in fact it will let me choose a windows program, it just won't change / stay as THAT program, but will switch to another (windows) application. drives me nuts, since i have to wait for that program to open and tell me it can't open the file, then close it down and open the file using the correct program. and yes, i AM aware that this thread is from 5 months ago - so WHY am i still experiencing this? surely that's plenty of time for it to be sorted and patched!

Did you try the (Cmd- I) solution by Eir Nym above? – edu222 Apr 25 at 12:36
