Ask Different is a question and answer site for power users of Apple hardware and software. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a Verizon 64GB iPad 2, jailbroken via JailbreakMe 3.0. I tried to type an email today, and the characters will not show up. The keyboard is recognizing button presses, but the characters are not being entered into any of the fields in Mail.app. The keyboard works in every other app.

I began looking through my installed Mobile Substrate extensions to see if I could find anything directly related to Mail that may be causing the issue. I didn't see anything suspicious, so I just reinstalled Mobile Substrate. Still didn't fix it. I also installed Split Mail to see if purposely installing a Mail extension would fix the issue. No.

I am trying not to have to resort to a restore. As much as I want to fix this issue, I am actually having fun bug-huning. Any advice you all can offer is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Thomas

Have you tried opening up the Task Manager and killing the Mail app, and re-opening it? – vcsjones Jul 20 '11 at 14:37
Yep. Tried that too. As well as rebooted. – Thomas Jul 20 '11 at 14:42
It's happening again! – Thomas Jul 22 '11 at 15:20
Do you have your mail open in a browser tab? Try closing that. – user13867 Nov 19 '11 at 4:58

Can you post the list of Cydia packages you've installed on your iPad? Whenever I had a problem with jailbroken iDevices, it was always caused by a buggy Cydia app. – kaixi Nov 19 '11 at 9:16
