Safari doesn't seem to have any status bar in which the URL of a link shows when the user moves the cursor over a link (without clicking) All other browsers I've ever used do this. Is there a user preference checkbox somewhere for this?

I believe this Safari extension does precicely what you are looking for. http://ultimatestatusbar.com |

There are two ways: first, go to the 'View' menu, select 'show status bar', and a bottom-of-window bar will display a link when your cursor is positioned on one. Second, if you depress the [left] mouse button and hold it down, then drag just off the region of the link, a display will pop open at the cursor. |

It does - the URL is shown on the gray bar at the bottom of the page. Some pages can hide this and it does not restore if you go to a new page. However File->New Window should always show this, |
