Is this possible? I know you can protect a .dmg file, but is there a more convenient solution, by using a third party application?

The only way I can think of to do this would be to create a new user with the password you want to use for the folder, then use chmod to set rights on the folder to 700, then you'll use that new user's username and password to access the file.

That adds very little protection and is not very convenient. –  Nathan Grigg Jun 26 '11 at 3:00

Could you maybe add to your answer what the application does? Now the answer is a bit short and not really descriptive. –  Bart Arondson Aug 3 '13 at 18:24
