I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro and I'm trying to use a Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX with it. It uses Logitech's Unifying receiver:

Logitech Unifying Receiver

I use the mouse with my right hand and it seems to get very poor signal from the receiver. I can confirm this by getting a USB extension cable and basically relocating the receiver to the right side of the computer, next to the mouse. The mouse works fine on all of my other computers, such as Latitudes and ThinkPads, so I know the receiver isn't the problem. And there's no option to change the channel it uses in the software.

I assume this is due to the material in the case.

On top of that, Logitech's Mac software is pretty buggy too. It often scrolls when I click and scrolling is very jerky. I know this isn't the mouse, since I can reboot into Boot Camp and it's perfectly smooth and normal (with the USB extension cable of course).

Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this or for a Bluetooth laser mouse with a couple of side buttons? I considered a Razer Orochi, but I tried out a friend's and my fingers went numb after a bit. I didn't like the stutter due to it going to sleep after 2 seconds either.

Since the problem is with Logitech's hardware (and software) and not Apple's, this question is off-topic for this site. Also, asking for recommendations for a mouse is off-topic as it is a 'shopping recommendation'. Please see the FAQs for more info. Thanks for your cooperation. – Nathan Greenstein Jul 9 '11 at 0:49

I now using Logitech Performance MX mouse with the Unifying receiver and can confirm, the Logitech mouses are buggy, especially under the heavy load. (Like games - my experience comes from the World of Warcraft).

Somewhat (not fully) helped the following (but costs money):

  • uninstalling the Logitech software
  • installing the ControllerMate application
  • and setting up an custom acceleration profile with the ControllerMate

I do not recommend to anyone use this combination for games. It is usable for normal (read: office like) use.
