I'm using Safari for Windows, and I've noticed that when I'm going to upload a file in Gmail for example, clicking the browse button opens the open dialog showing files, but when trying to click a file to select it, the click is ignored by the dialog and received in the page below instead, so if there's a link below the file, this one gets the click.

Can anyone tell me if this is a known issue? Is there any sign that this will be fixed?

Are your Safari and Shockwave Flash plugin up-to-date?

I just tried this in Safari 5.0.5 running Shockwave Flash 10.1 r102 and had no issues with the file browser. I was able to select multiple files in the file browser window that opened. Clicks were registered in the file browser window.

Under the 'Security' tab in Safari I do have 'Enable Plug-Ins' checked.

As a potential work around: you can drag-and-drop files from Finder windows to the "attachment area" just below the Subject line. The area will turn green and being uploading your files as soon as you release the mouse and drop them on the green area.

Does file upload work in other webpages? Gmail uses Flash for the attachment browse button (this is the reason it allows multiple files to be selected at one go and shows a progress bar). So this could very easily be a Flash issue, or a mismatch between Safari and Flash.

Can you try
1. File upload from a different website in Safari
2. Disable Flash based attachments in Gmail and try (Gmail -> Mail Settings -> General -> Attachment (the last one on the page), Select "Basic attachment features"
3. Install the latest version of the Flash player

1. I tried other websites, and the same thing happens – user4655 Mar 28 '11 at 18:46
