Ask Different is a question and answer site for power users of Apple hardware and software. It's 100% free, no registration required.

A friend of mine recorded a three hour interview and when she went to listen to the memo, it said "0 seconds". I've walked her through installing iPhone Explorer, and she can see the file there on the file system, but it says 257kb, which is far too small for an audio clip that long. We copied the file to her Mac, but we can't seem to email it or upload it to Dropbox; the email won't attach, and the file keeps showing the blue "not uploaded" icon. So I'm wondering if the file could be corrupted in some way that's fooling the voice memo app and the Finder about its contents.

And, of course, is there any way to fix this and recover the audio file?
