I am in a great need for an external monitor. I own a 13" MacBook Air (1st gen), but recently I have been doing a lot of dual-output work, and so I need something larger.

Money aside, as a huge Apple fan, I would get the ACD right away, however, I am looking for a cheaper alternative. I have been looking at these two monitors:

NEC EA232WMi 23" (~ $260)

Samsung 2494SW 24" (~ $180)

The first offers an IPS panel, and is similar spec-wise to the ACD. The Samsung seems to be the best value TN display in the market (at least from what I've seen).

Will the MB Air video card support these monitors?

There are way too many questions in one question… :) You might want to rephrase the whole thing. In any case, bear in mind that usually any pc compatible display should work on OS X right out of the box. – Martín Marconcini Mar 14 '11 at 5:25
